Avery

10 months later.

Time passed in blissful peace, spring, summer and autumn drifted by, and before they knew it, it was winter once more. Avery had learned to manage the Militia and the kingdom as a whole, implementing new laws and demolishing those he deemed harmful and useless to the citizens’ morals. However, there were still minor unrest, but it was nothing serious.

The relationship with Hathage was as peaceful as it was as he dealt with his elder brother. He even got some guidance from him. Avery and his wife would visit Hathage thrice in a month to pay a visit to his brother and her childhood friend, Sera.

Edith had remained in the Militia as their decoder to fill Merille’s position, though there were not much to decode nowadays. From the last he heard about Caden and Merille was from Edith. They had wed in Merille’s hometown, the Kingdom of Relo and planned to stay for a few more month before returning to the Militia.

His close friend, Lucien had left Rayard to return to Avreles Empire two weeks ago after he received a letter from his uncle. Lucien was reluctant to return, but Avery had convinced him that it was time to stop running from his duties. He was an adult, and he should face his duties like an adult. Lucien had finally given in and resigned from his position as Major, Avery’s righthand-man. Avery had missed his close friend, but he must do what he must. Avery had promoted Mr. Roan as his righthand-man from his position as the Educator of the Militia for his wide knowledge in all topics.

Now, as Avery watched his wife, smiling brightly at the sky, his heart was filled with a sense of warmth and happiness. They were sitting against a large tree bark, their hands intertwined, while gazing at the frozen lake at Falborg Forest. They would return to the Alcoft cottage once a week to spend some time together. The cottage was cleaned and repaired to the way it was before twelve years ago.

“I’m glad you’re by my side, Edie.” Avery said softly with affection and placed a tender kiss on Edith’s cheek.

“I will always be by your side, my love.” Edith smiled lovingly at him and rested her head on his shoulder. Avery kissed her head before resting his head atop hers, enjoying the winter white scenery, and the calm with the presence of his wife next to him, her free hand resting atop her slightly swollen belly.

Please let this be an everlasting happiness.
